The Aston Martin DB9 is a thoroughbred sports car with GT levels of comfort and refinement. Combining Aston Martin’s unique character with an uncompromising design philosophy, the DB9 was borne out of a synthesis of traditional craftsmanship, high-tech manufacturing, modern components and use of the finest materials.

The DB9 is both a full-blooded sports car and a hugely capable grand tourer. Whether in Coupe or Volante form, it offers a supreme combination of driver involvement, character, luxury and refinement.

Beautifully styled, the DB9 never fails to stir the soul with its unique sound, power and performance. This purebred sports car is also a technical triumph, its beauty signifying aerodynamic efficiency, its power unencumbered by weight, its devastating straight-line performance paired with exquisite handling. All great sports cars strive to balance these qualities, and the DB9 creates an experience that is both unique and unforgettable. What the driver sees, hears and feels is in harmony. The reward is total involvement: a level of engagement that truly stimulates the senses, that re-ignites a passion for driving.

But an Aston Martin is also about luxury, indulgence and enjoyment – it is a feast for the senses. Sure enough, the magnificent exterior styling of the DB9 gives way to a sumptuous, comprehensively equipped cabin, trimmed in the finest materials. Every element is perfectly conceived, from the 6.0-litre V12, to the hand-stitched seats and carefully selected interior woods. Nothing is out of place.

No sports car manufacturer has a greater design heritage than Aston Martin. Responsible for some of the most beautiful sports cars ever made, Aston Martin imbues every model with understated elegance and graceful styling, achieved through harmonious proportions, taut surfacing, a ground-hugging stance and thorough attention to detail.

An Aston Martin is subtle, not attention-seeking. The coupe’s side profile is clean and distinctive, with a single-sweep roofline that flows through to a distinctive tail. Key Aston Martin design elements include the distinctive grille, metal side strakes, signature rear window shape and wide, curvaceous haunches.

December Supercar Competition – Win a Ferrari California and more…

Ferrari California

Source: Best of the Best website.

The Ferrari California made its official debut at the 2008 Paris Show after a series of special previews on the web and during two dedicated events staged in Maranello and Los Angeles at which it received a hugely enthusiastic reception.

The Ferrari California is an exceptionally innovative car whose philosophy takes its inspiration from the spirit and emotions of one of the great Ferraris of the past, the 1957 250 California, a superbly elegant open top car designed for the track, which has, over the years, come to symbolise not only superior sportiness and performance but also exclusivity, craftsmanship and faultless sophistication.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Things you need to know about the new GT3 RS. First, the gap between it and the cooking ‘997.2’ GT3 on which it is based is much bigger than it was between the first-generation 997 GT3 and GT3 RS. I’ve tried to think of a simpler way of saying that, but I can’t.

Whereas the old RS was a slightly lighter, lairier-looking version of the GT3, this time the car has more power (up 15bhp to 444bhp), runs shorter gearing and has a much more aggressive aero package. Basically, Porsche is positioning the GT3 as its standard fast-road and trackday weapon, but giving the ever-increasing numbers of circuit-obsessives a car that is, ostensibly, designed to be used on a racetrack most of the time.

There are weight-saving measures everywhere. The option to delete the hi-fi now includes stripping the speakers from the doors, 8kg is saved by using a single-mass flywheel (which is 1kg lighter than the old RS’s flywheel), and a £1000 lithium-ion battery pinches a further 11kg.

Win the Ferrari F430 in this November’s Supercar Competition

Win the Ferrari F430 in this November’s Supercar Competition

Source: Best of the Best website.

Apparently even the most butter-fingered, incapably hopeless driver could get the F430 round a test track just a second or so slower than the experts, and Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson has called it “just about the best car I’ve ever driven”.

The press is awash with reviews of the new Ferrari 458 at the moment, but it is testament to the F430’s awesome credentials that it has held Ferrari’s badge so high for quite so long. I have had the good fortune to drive one for a weekend, and its only then that you realise what all the fuss is all about. Just make sure you don’t turn off the traction control (like I did by mistake)!

As the hairpin bend unwinds, you start squeezing the throttle, and the engine note rises from a creamy bass growl to a screaming contralto howl, underlain by an increasingly fussy backbeat of cams and valve gear. It’s a delicious, utterly intoxicating engine noise. One that encourages you to use every last one of the 8500 revs that are on tap before you finger-flick the paddle shifter back and engage third gear, just like that…

SupercarCompetition.co.uk : Audi R8

Built in the grounds of the medieval castle of Nürburg and nicknamed “The Green Hell” by Jackie Stewart, the Nürburgring is widely considered the toughest, most unpronounceable, most dangerous and most demanding purpose-built race track in the world.

The perfect weapon to tackle this challenge is the Audi R8 V10. A futuristic coupé that looks ready to fight, is a sublime balance of form and function and that has motor racing coursing through its veins.

The R8 V10 gives you the sensation of perfect control over incredible levels of power – and put simply, is a 5.2 litre, ten cylinder, 525bhp, 196mph evolution of the original Quattro 4WD sports car that motorsport enthusiasts have long since immortalised.

The engine which based on the unit in the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 is an engineering marvel. At 3,000rpm the engine wakes up, valves open in the exhaust and the engine’s warble drowns out its whirr. By 4,000rpm the exhausts are sounding the charge and the almost seamless torque fires the car up the road. From then on it just gets better and better…

But it’s not all about power. The R8 V10 wears two suits: one for the physics bending backroad blast across Europe, and the other for the (now not so tedious) drive to and from work. The V10 gets pole position from us in this month’s competition and we’d love you to join us for a few laps of the Nürburgring when you win!

Ferrari 458 Italia

Ferrari 458 Italia

Source: Best of the Best website.

While it’s true that every Ferrari is innovative by definition, it’s equally true that in the course of the Prancing Horse’s history, certain cars have marked a genuine departure from the current range. This is very much the case with the Ferrari 458 Italia, which is a massive leap forward from the company’s previous mid-rear engined sports cars.

The new model is a synthesis of style, creative flair, passion and cutting-edge technology, characteristics for which Italy as a nation is well-known. For this reason Ferrari chose to add the name of its homeland to the traditional figure representing the displacement and number of cylinders.

A new car from every point of view

The Ferrari 458 Italia is a completely new car from every point of view: engine, design, aerodynamics, handling, instrumentation and ergonomics, just to name a few.

A two-seater berlinetta, the Ferrari 458 Italia, as is now traditional for all Ferrari’s road-going cars, benefits hugely from the company’s Formula 1 experience. This is particularly evident in the speed and precision with which the car responds to driver inputs and in the attention focused on reducing internal friction in the engine for lower fuel consumption than the Ferrari F430, despite the fact that both overall displacement and power have increased.

Ferrari 458 Born on the Track

However, Ferrari’s track experience makes its presence felt in the Ferrari 458 Italia not only in terms of pure technological transfer but also on a more emotional level, because of the strong emphasis on creating an almost symbiotic relationship between driver and car.

The Ferrari 458 Italia features an innovative driving environment with a new kind of steering wheel and dashboard that is the direct result of racing practice. Once again input from Michael Schumacher – who was involved from the very start of the Ferrari 458 Italia project – played an invaluable part.
